West Park Lounge

West Park Lounge is one of the fruits of a productive liaison between Turkey and England. Oguz Odabas who runs the Lounge was born and bred in Bodrum, “world renowned as a paradise for tourists” (according to its website). He met and married one of those tourists, Alice, and thereby came to England.

Oguz has worked in many restaurants around this country, most recently the Lotus Grill in Morley. He took over West Park Lounge some five years ago. As an enterprising businessman, he saw West Park as a very positive area, where the cafe had many long-standing patrons.

The Lounge is now very much a family business. Oguz is the main cook, but Alice cooks too, on the days when she’s not teaching at a special needs school in Roundhay. They have four children who also work in the cafe.

The Lounge is busy, open twelve hours a day, most days of the week (closes at tea time on Sunday and Monday). It serves English, Italian and Mediterranean dishes, with vegan options available, and a well stocked bar. The cafe offers breakfast, lunch and evening dining, in a friendly ambience – or if the weather’s decent, in the sheltered outdoor seating.
